About Me
Ever since I was very young, I have loved horses. When I was 8 years old, my parents sent me for my first riding lesson. I have been riding ever since.
In 1999, I moved to Ripon, Wisconsin to attend Ripon College. There, I earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychobiology with an emphasis on animal behavior. During my studies, I researched many aspects of equine behavior.
While in college, I took a job at Ripon’s Cedar Ridge Ranch. There, I learned a lot about stable and herd management and began training horses and riders alike. This is where I was introduced to the John Lyons method. I enjoyed the ranch so much, I decided to stay after I graduated.
In 2003 the Avery family gave me the best gift a horse-crazy girl could ever want...my first horse! This scruffy little 6-month-old palomino colt, named Huckleberry, is the ‘yellow horse’ for which my business is named. It was love at first sight.
I decided to apply for the John and Josh Lyons certification program, and in October of 2005, I was accepted! I spent the winter preparing and in March of 2006, I packed up my yellow horse and my second horse Smokey, and headed out to Colorado.
The summer of 2006 was extremely busy. The certification program was intense and full of ups and downs. I really enjoyed the program and gained an incredible amount of insight and knowledge from the Lyons family. Due to some trouble with lameness, Smokey had to be taken out of the program (he now resides with my friends in Colorado) and was replaced by Scarlett, a spicy young sorrel mare from the Guynn training center in Berthoud, CO.
In October of 2006, I graduated from the Lyons’ training program. In November, I returned to Wisconsin to train horses and their people. I am ready and waiting to help you achieve a great working partnership with your horse!
